One of the most real joys of being a wedding and family photographer in Philadelphia is watching my couples become parents, and then grow their families. Lauren and Jason are one of those couples. Last year, they welcomed their first son, Cooper, to the world and asked me to document their first session as a family of three. Now, another year has passed and they’ve welcomed their second little one to the world, Ryder. I was thrilled when they reached out to book a session with Samantha Jay Portraiture my premier Philadelphia newborn photographer brand to document his arrival!

Lauren always has the most stunning styling in her home and for her babies! Ryder’s nursery has a beautiful sage tone throughout and her older son’s nursery was blue. Both have AMAZING wallpaper feature walls! I’m seriously obsessed with both of their rooms. With the fun colors of Ryder’s room in mind, Lauren and Jason did a great job styling themselves and the boys in more neutral colors – like tans, creams, and whites. Honestly, styling your family is one of the most important parts of your newborn session. It’s also why I always start every newborn session with your baby on a white backdrop. For Ryder, we used a cream colored blanket. I think it’s a great way to ensure all of the final galleries have some more “neutral” images to hang in your home or display in your albums.
It was so good to see Lauren and Jason again. They’re amazing humans – and amazing parents – who have such a great outlook on parenting. Their love for their boys and the care they show both of them is amazing. Welcoming a second baby is an amazing time for a young family. It can also be bittersweet for the original family unit! I was so impressed watching Lauren and Jason navigate this change with Cooper. He’s definitely taking to his role of big brother! You can tell he feels very loved and secure – and has, throughout the whole process.
While seeing everyone was definitely a highlight, perhaps my favorite part of any Le Papillon session is designing the family’s artwork after the session. I love designing custom albums or wall art displays so that my families can enjoy their portraits for years to come.
