Cherry blossom season is one of the most anticipated (and fleeting) times of year in the Philadelphia area. If you’re dreaming of soft pink blooms and romantic spring light for your engagement photos, Longwood Gardens is one of the most beautiful locations to consider.
I absolutely adore JP and Lisa and their cherry blossom Longwood Gardens engagement session which was intentionally around peak cherry blossom season! I actually met them through her sister’s wedding, so being involved in JP and Lisa’s wedding planning has been extra special for me! Today I’m sharing both their portraits and helpful information if you’re considering your own 2026 cherry blossom Longwood Gardens engagement session.

When Is Cherry Blossom Season in the Philadelphia Area?
Cherry blossoms typically bloom between late March and mid-April, depending entirely on the weather. A warm winter can bring blooms early. A cold snap can delay or shorten the season.
The most important thing to know:
Cherry blossom season is brief. Peak bloom often lasts just 7–10 days.
If blossoms are important to you:
- Be flexible with your date (*and location* as many need permits)
- Book your photographer early.
- Stay in close communication as the season approaches.
- Be prepared to shift your session if needed unless you’ve chosen a permitted location
JP and Lisa were wonderfully patient while we waited for the perfect bloom window — and it was absolutely worth it.
Not only were the cherry blossoms in full bloom but they were also blessed with all the joys of a spring session. Flowering trees, fresh greenery, and soft evening light make it one of my favorite seasons to photograph.
Chic Springtime Engagement Session Outfit Inspiration
JP and Lisa were perfectly styled with both of their outfit options for their cherry blossom Longwood Gardens engagement session. I always encourage my couples to bring 2 outfits for their session. Some couples do a casual and a more formal option, while others just go for two chic looks. I always suggest to base this on your vibe as a couple and the location that you choose. JP and Lisa began in tan outfits – him a suit, and her a gorgeous long dress with a feather print. It brought some fun, darker colors to their portraits. We stayed mostly in the greenery and the arch ways of Longwood Gardens while they were in these outfits.
Afterwards, JP and Lisa changed into their second outfits for their cherry blossom Longwood Gardens engagement session. I personally love when brides choose white for engagement portraits. It subtly celebrates the season you’re in while creating beautiful contrast against spring florals.
Soft neutrals, creams, blush tones, and light blues all photograph beautifully during cherry blossom season.

Photography Permits at Longwood Gardens (2026 Information)
If you are planning photos at Longwood Gardens, a photography permit is required.
As of February 2026:
- Engagement session permit: $250
- Session length: 90 minutes
- Permit must be requested at least 4 weeks in advance
- Permits are not issued same-day
It’s important to secure your permit early, especially during high-demand seasons like spring.
