There is nothing more special to me than capturing my couples and their growing families. I captured Lauren and Mike at Ridley Creek State Park during their beautiful engagement session. Recently, I had the chance to photograph them as new parents to their beautiful baby boy, Mason, during their Chadds Ford PA newborn session. Newborn sessions at home are one of my favorite ways to document the early days of parenthood. Lauren and Mike welcomed me for their Chadds Ford PA newborn session at their gorgeous home so that we could record what life is really like for their little family right now.
Chadds Ford PA Newborn Session
Lauren and Mike live in a beautiful old home that they have lovingly restored in Chadds Ford, PA. One second inside and you know that they poured their hearts and souls into their work here. There is so much charm and the spaces are so calm. I loved all of the green tones throughout their space and it was a gorgeous backdrop for these once-in-a-lifetime portraits with their new baby.
Mason’s nursery was a big highlight design wise. There were beautiful pieces of art in gold frames hanging on the wall above his nursery that I couldn’t get enough of, and I truly loved the leaf wallpaper lining the walls. What makes me laugh is that I posted a carousel of images to Instagram from their session and people went nuts over the kitchen! Honestly, I don’t blame them one bit. The entire home is beautiful and I could have stayed all day to photograph these three!
Inspiration for At-Home Newborn Portraits
During their Chadds Ford PA newborn session, we focused on Baby Mason (obviously!), but I also got to meet his furry siblings for some of the portraits in the nursery. They were so sweet with the baby and even got to lay near him on their parents’ bed. It was absolutely adorable and I’m so happy that Lauren and Mike wanted to include them in their portraits. I’m all about capturing your fur babies during in-home portraits!
We captured most of our portraits inside his nursery, where Lauren and Mike could cuddle with their son, watch him in his crib, and enjoy a few quiet moments as a family of three. I always like photographing babies in their nurseries – although many of them aren’t sleeping there yet! These rooms are always crafted with such love and joy, I want to document that feeling!
While our newborn session at home was focused on the interactions between Mason and his parents, I also always want to capture portraits of just the little baby. There’s something really magical about these portraits – a chance to document all of the tiny details that will fade so quickly. I always keep these solo portraits simple – focusing on a white or neutral background so the baby is easily the focus. Mason was an angel, sleeping peacefully during our portraits, which was amazing! Even if your baby doesn’t want to sleep like Mason did, don’t worry – we’ll always capture beautiful portraits of your littlest love!
Lauren and Mike, thank you for welcoming me to your beautiful home in Chadds Ford. I’m so happy I got to see you both again and meet Mason. He’s absolutely perfect and I know he’s so lucky to have parents like you! I hope that you will treasure these portraits as your son begins to grow and change in his first year of life.
